A Whiter Shade of Pale

We skipped the light Fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kind of seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
The waiter brought a tray

And so it was later
As the Miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale

------ organ solo ------

She said there is no reason
And the truth is plain to see
But I wandered through my playing cards
And would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open
They might just as well've been closed

------ organ solo ------

And so it was that later
As the Miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale, turned a whiter shade of pale
Turned a whiter shade of pale, turned a whiter shade of pale

And so it was.... (fade)

There is an unpublished second verse
that they included in concerts:

She said "I'm home on shore leave"
Though in truth we were at sea
So I took her by the looking glass
And forced her to agree
Saying, "You must be the mermaid
Who took Neptune for a ride"
But she smiled at me so sadly
That my anger straight 'way died

And still has one fourth verse (The original lyrics had four verses, of which only two are heard on the original recording. The third verse has been heard in live performances by Procol Harum, and more seldom also the fourth. - Information by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Whiter_Shade_of_Pale):

If music be the food of love
then laughter is its queen
and likewise if behind is in front
then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
seemed to slip straight through my head

Ainda Mais Pálida

Dançamos o fandango suave
Girando pelo salão
Eu estava meio tonto
Mas a multidão queria mais
E o pessoal comentava cada vez mais
Enquanto o teto rodava
Quando pedimos outra bebida
O garçom trouxe uma bandeja

E foi mais tarde
Quando Miller contava sua história
Que seu rosto a princípio apenas fantasmagórico
Ficou ainda mais pálida

Solo

Ela disse que não há motivo
E a verdade é cristalina
Mas eu consultei as cartas do baralho
E não permitira que ela fosse
Uma das dezesseis virgens vestais
Que partiam para o litoral
E embora meus olhos estivessem abertos
Daria no mesmo se estivessem fechados

----- solo -----

E foi mais tarde
Quando Miller contava sua história
Que seu rosto a princípio apenas fantasmagórico
Ficou ainda mais pálido, ficou ainda mais pálido
Ficou ainda mais pálido, ficou ainda mais pálido

E foi mais tarde ...

Este é um verso não publicado
Que eles (a banda Procol Harum) incluem em shows:

Ela disse: "Estou em casa de licença"
Embora, na verdade, estivéssemos no mar
Então eu a levei até a janela
E a forcei a concordar
